Okay, so college is now over, which totally blows!, and to be honest University kinda sucks!
Looks like the end of this blog =/

3D Animation Renders

3D Animation Process

3D content ideas

I am finding it hard to think of an idea for my 3D as i think it is hard to show tattoos through this media. A lot of people have given me ideas, such as using poser to create a person and then show tattoos on them, but I personally think that poser models look really tacky and horrible. Also I wouldn’t look realistic enough to show the tattoos on skin.

I have come up with two different ideas, and am following the one through. The only problem I really have with them is that I’m still not actually sure if I like them, and even want to produce them.
The first idea I has, was an Ident for all of my FMP work. This means it would be displayed before my game, and on my website, and most likely on all of my written work, and books.
The aim I was going for with the ident, was generally like the MTV idents. The main one I looked at, which gave me the idea of an ident was a YouTube MTV video ident which showed, 3D blocks of colour wrapping themselves around buildings. The first part of the clip was black solid blocks wrapping and draping around a huge, tall building and its interior, spelling out dark, horrible words as the blocks come together. In the second part, it fades into a black word, in which you can only see half of the word. The black then peels away, looking like tape, leaving the word in multi colours. The blocks then start their journey again, going over the black words, and turning them into nice, happy, bright words, in multicolours.
I liked this video because it showed a lot of imagination and was very creative. I loved the fact that they had used 3D with video and was bring words to life, using a very simple idea. It is a very lively video, with a lot going on, and I thought it would be really good to base my own ident, on these key things.
My ident idea was maybe to come up with a logo and then send lots of coloured blocks on a journey around a room, maybe area 51, and then for them to meet up in the middle and form the logo. I really liked this idea at the time, and thought it would be really fun to do, but after a couple of weeks, I thought that this idea was too plain and wouldn’t really be that good to do.

Still sticking with the ident idea, I then decided to research a lot more idents. Another series of idents that I found and liked, were the E4 idents. There was a few of these that caught my eye, and gave me a couple more ideas. The first one that caught my eye was one of a purple fluffy monster, which smiles, looks around, and then jumps towards loads of the same monster which then pans up to show E4.
I really liked this ident because it’s very plain, fun, and easy to do. I thought that the monster looked very cute and funny, but also very easy to remember and as well as the fact that as soon as you see it, you just know it Is E4, due to the colour that it is. I thought that this ident was really fun, and was thinking of doing one similar. I wanted to create my own little monster that represented tattoos in a way, which would then run towards loads of others, who would gather together and then all position themselves in the shape of the logo I wanted.
I’m not sure why I passed aside this idea, as looking at it now, I think it is a very good idea and would be really fun to play with. If I have time, I am considering making this 3D ident as well as the 3D content I have decided to construct.

The second ident I had a huge interest in was one of a matchstick dog. The video was pretty much just a matchstick dog that jumps around for a bit and gets out of breath and sits down. It then gets an itch and scratches with its back legs, which sets him alight. He then turns to dust and forms the e4 logo.
I thought that this was really good because it was though out really well. I found it very funny and looked amazing. I think that this is a very good ident, because it makes people laugh, which then make them talk about it to other people, which then makes it popular and known well.
I didn’t really get any ideas from it, but it did give me more inspiration to do the monster idea I had.

After playing around with these ideas in my head, I then decided to look at something different then idents. I started thinking back to the poser models that a friend had suggested, and was wondering what id do if I was to try and work around using a poser model. After a lot of thinking, I came up with an idea which was creating motion graphic lines to swirl around a body and then to go onto the body to form a tattoo. The only problem was working around poser.
I got the solution to this problem, when Mark Allen showed me his portfolio of University. In his portfolio, he had made a plain, grey human body model. This then helped me solve my problem, and also gave me another idea for my 3D content.
The next idea I got was to make two of these human models, one male and one female. These models would then spin around in a circle, whilst designs of tattoos I had created appeared and disappeared on them. After going through this idea in my head, I then thought of another feature that I could add. This was when the tattoos appear on the body, it would freeze and then vector lines would come off it, with words describing the tattoo and area written at the end of the line.
I then decided that this was the idea I was going to go for, and started on the process. After spending a couple of hours in making my 3D body, I then came up with another idea, which I thought would be much easier and quicker to produce.
This idea was of a little robot, who was going to be asleep when the camera is first on him, and then for him to wake up to see a wall right in front of him. He would then make his way towards the wall where an arm will extend out of a box on his body to spray the wall. The camera will then reveal the wall, which will have the name of my FMP on it.

Interactive Piece Process

My interactive piece process

For my interactive piece I originally wanted to make a game in which people would become addicted too. The game would consist of different levels in which you are required to draw on a faint line, which makes a tattoo shape. If you have drawn on the line neatly, then you go to the next level, if you miss the lines then you have to go back to the beginning. All the way through the levels, the image that you have to draw is getting harder, and also you are unlocking colors, which you can use to draw with.
The game is aimed at people who are quite competitive and likes a challenge and I was hoping that the game would be addictive to some, and will be fun at the same time. Unlike other games like this, the game would not consist of a timer.
1A game similar to my idea is this http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/the-sketcher/

This game is similar in the way that you have to draw over the line/ image over 80% correctly in the time you are given otherwise you loose the game. If you succeed, you then go to the next and harder level.

Another game kind of similar is: http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/line-tracer/
This is where these games came from http://www.freewebarcade.com/drawing-games.php

This was my plan, but when it came to constructing it, everything fell to pieces. I started it in director with the help of a tutor, but the coding kept going wrong and it started to play up loads. This was then scrapped rather quickly for technical reasons.
I then had to try and think of something else to do, which was really hard, as there is not much you can do in the subject of tattoos, apart from a gallery, which is what my website is, and I didn’t want to repeat myself.
I then had a conversation with another tutor about my problem, and they suggested a “guess the tattoo” stereotyping game, which triggered off some ideas. I then decided that I was still going to do a game, but this time, it would involve the whole of Multimedia 2010, as well as general stereotypes. So I started taking pictures of everyone and arranging them so that they had their own “bit about me”. The game would then consist of a menu where everyone is a silhouette and when you scroll over him or her, they become visible. Then, if you click on them, it would go to their own page in which you have to choose a tattoo that you think they might have. You then choose a tattoo and it will go to another page, which a video will automatically display saying whether you are right or not, and then a fact about tattoos.
Another feature I wanted to include was that when you go into the game, a screen will come up with two buttons. The one would say “Multimedia 2010” and the other would say “General stereotypes”. If you click on the “Multimedia 2010”, it would direct you to the pages I was previously on about, but if you click on the “General stereotypes”, I wanted to It to direct you too another screen similar to the multimedia 2010 one, but will have images of people dressed very stereotypically.
I then scrapped this idea and worked on maybe having it direct you to a stereotypical video instead of the game. I the scrapped this idea as well as I had ran out of time.

Web Design Process

Website Design

For my FMP website, I want to create a design that is simple and easy to navigate around. I want my website to be constructed using simple colours and to have a simple layout. The information that will be presented on my website is, my own biography, about the college course, a gallery featuring all the photos I have taken of other peoples tattoos, a video player showing all of the interviews I have done, and also a gallery on my own tattoo designs.
11 To help me come up with a couple of design ideas, I will research and compare lots of different existing websites.
The first website I looked at was a website that displayed a “Gallery of over 4,500 bloomin' good web designs”.
The first thing that attracts me to this website is the colour scheme. I like this as they are really simple colours, which have been used effectively. This is one of this websites aspects that I want to use on my own website.
Another feature that I like about this website is the orange banner across the top of the page. I think that this is good because it gives the page a sense of wideness. I also like the fact that all of then buttons/ tabs are all above the orange band. This gives the page simplicity. I also like the black plain background and the fact that they have used a lighter shade to box off the information that is included on the page. Altogether I find that this is a very simple, effective website.

Another website I looked at was another based on website design. The only thing that attracted me to this website was the green band at the top of the page. I like this because it seems to help split the page up and also attracts you eyes to the top of the page making the page seem longer. Again, I like the colour scheme on this website. I like the fact that it is plain, but using colour at the same time to make it stand out and eye catching. I think it is good that they have used this technique to make the title of the page stand out, and the fact that they have made it so the green strip and the black background/ page, spills together through grass and a tree. This is one feature I am considering using on my FMP website.

I looked at many other websites to help me make up my mind on what I wanted (these will be listed in my bibliography). I decided after doing a lot of research, that I didn’t particularly want to copy anyone’s website idea, and that I wanted to come up with my own individual one. This then triggered me off messing around with Photoshop to come up with a design I liked.

This was my original design that I came up with, that I liked, but thought was a bit out of place with the rest of my project. I also thought that it was a bit too plain, and there was nothing filling up the space in the white area. I then scrapped this idea relatively quickly, and worked on something smaller and easier to work with.

This was then the next design I came up with, but really didn’t like it that much, as I thought it was way to plain, as well as too small for a gallery to fit onto it. I then decided to again scrap this, but not before I messed around with the design again.

My final idea was to use a flash gallery player on the majority of all my pages, so I came up with this simple design. The flash galleries would be displayed between the white lines, with the page buttons underneath the chunky white line. I then kept with this idea and produced it in Dreamweaver. I also produced the website above in Dreamweaver too.
